Consider your wedding to be the equivalent of a wedding dance. 1,2,3 and 1,2,3. For most dances you need to understand a little about the character of the dance. By design, a wedding ceremony is romantic, and has movement. In essence it is lyrical and meant to be an expression of your emotions in an imaginative and beautiful way.
Because of short sightedness, it is painful to think of the couple who misses out on the most important dance of their life (and here we’re not talking about the post ceremonial reception first dance). There is a saying, “professionals do what professionals do”. Because pros and vendors are frequently focused on their particular area of expertise they may not see the full picture or catch the complete wedding vision a couple has in mind. Here is where a Celebrant/Officiant who is highly skilled in wedding process, the art of storytelling and who is invested in weaving all your ceremony elements together can be an invaluable asset to event planners and day of coordinators.
Here are 3 steps to take to make your wedding “DANCE”
- Let your love story and feeling of love inspire you. Remember when and how you met; write down what your feelings were and keep those feelings central to your wedding planning. Were you magically smitten, calm and curious, excited and happy?
- Plan to allow the energy of the ceremony to be indicative or who you are. If you are a quiet, laid back couple, then you might want a traditional feel, soft lights, ambient music, literary poems, or readings. But if you are a high spirited couple, you’ll want the ceremonial vibe to be engaging and to have contemporary elements like group readings. In any situation try to incorporate something of your culture.
- Think through the nuptial sections. It is more than a processional and someone standing in front of you leading you thru. Think about the flow, the ring exchange, the vows, unity ritual, the first kiss, and ultimately your pronouncement. These are all aspects of your wedding ceremony that you have a say in.
Do these 3 things and your wedding will truly reflect who you are as a couple.
